Troop Business

  • Matt Larsen led a discussion about the desire of the Scouts in the Troop to participate in more camping trips that are not High Adventure but local trips to Leo Carillo and other family camp sites. The consensus from the parents was that this was a good idea and these would be scheduled at the August Parent meeting. It was proposed that approximately six of these could be scheduled a year with two of the trips reserved for older Scouts (high school). The older scouts would be responsible for planning and executing the camping trips.
  • General discussion that the Troop is over scheduled. The golf outing has very few responses as it conflicts with other troop events. At the August planning meeting we will look to modifying the current monthly schedule so that we don’t have as many events or modifying the event so that travel isn’t required. For example, a Troop Fun event may be pizza and a movie at the Scouthouse or a flag football game at the park.
  • At the July 12 meeting, the Scouts will be asked to identify events that they would like to do as a troop. Carol will send an email to Soren, Alex R., Alex Umbenhauer and Jack requesting that they attend the meeting and lead the discussions with the Scouts and report back to the parents before the planning meeting. A survey will also be sent so that any scouts that cannot attend the meeting can provide input.
  • There was discussion about the need to provide more structure to the meetings with associated themes that would correlate with the planning guide outlined in Scouter News. This will be incorporated at the planning meeting in August. The older Scouts can receive a meeting topic assignment and it will be their responsibility to plan the events for that meeting.
